Friday Funnies: Need a New Career?

(laughing)
.
My 7yo has wanted to be a school teacher since she was able to speak. She should be.
.
Last New Year’s (2011) she made her little brother her project, setting a personal goal to teach him how to write the names in our family (all 7 of us) by the end of the year. He was 3 at the time and she was only 6, but she worked with him throughout the year and, lo and behold, he can write our names now—sort of.
.
So I was shocked when he reappeared in this year’s resolutions. (FYI, I’m not a goal setter. She takes after my hubby.) Her new goal was to teach him math. She and her BFF hold “school” a couple times a week for him. Surprisingly, or not surprisingly, he’s making progress. I love it! She really is a natural born teacher.

Recently she told me, “We’re going to start double-digit addition now.” I said, “Great!” while thinking in my mind, He just turned four! But I would never squelch her enthusiasm—especially when she’s saving me money on preschool! I had to bite the inside of my cheeks to keep from laughing (or commenting). Double-digit addition. For a 4yo who can barely count to twenty.
LOVE HER!

But it wasn’t until this week that I found out the real reason she wants to be a school teacher. She said to me, and I quote, “The first reason I want to be a teacher is for the treats. The second is to teach the children.” She was 100% serious.

You see, her birthday is in the summer. Poor planning on our part according to her. However, her lovely teachers let her bring in birthday treats on her half-birthday so all is not lost. Since that was last week, she was ecstatic. She even had leftovers she took around to her previous teachers. It wasn’t until her comment, though, that I put two and two together. Do you realize how many treats these teachers get, day in and day out? I hadn’t, but she’s no dummy. Treats first. Helping children second.

So, if any of you have not chosen an occupation yet, you might consider being a school teacher. I hear they get awesome treats!

Oh, and they get to help kids too. :)

Anything make you laugh this week? If so, share. If not, wow! You had a bad week. Sorry.

  1. That's hysterical. Your daughter's got the right idea. Half the reason I like my job (not a teacher) is because they give me candy and food for no apparent reason. Good luck to her!

  2. That's so adorable! As a summer birthday girl I can totally appreciate your daughter's reasoning – I only remember one or two years I had teachers that let summer kids celebrate their birthdays in school. ^_^

  3. Gotta laugh at that one! Although you'll have to tell her she better teach in Michigan. The whole "passing the treats around the school thing" doesn't happen here in Texas. As a matter of fact, when I first started, kids weren't allowed to bring treats for birthdays at all! But we do get nice treats from our PTA and administration from time to time! :-)

  4. I suppose if you're not a summer birthday, it's not something you think about much. I hadn't really. But thankfully all her teachers are fully aware and thus far have been pro half-birthdays.

  5. What? No birthday treats? Something is seriously wrong with that. I actually thought about you while typing this up, since I knew you were one of those cool teachers kids love. :) Miss you guys!

  6. Now that is awesome. I never had a desire to be a teacher, even if there are treats involved. I could go all day about writing, however.I gave you a Shout-Out on my blog today! :)
